Patricia Gagne

One of the people I have loved the most in my life is my brother-in-law John who passed away a number of years ago.  John had Downs Syndrome and loved me with a sincerity and simplicity that touched my heart.  It’s probably a lot due to John that I so much want to support Hi-Hope.  This is an organization that supports adults with disabilities, from those who need constant care to those who can work at the right job.  It seems so important to me that these people receive the care they deserve and that their families have some well-earned rest.  Hi-Hope is filled with sincere staff who genuinely care for their charges in an atmosphere of respect.  All that said, here is the flyer for the fundraiser.  Anyone is welcome to participate!hi hope flyer

This is a very exciting time for me- the first edition of my magazine Family Portraiture in the Home is about to be published.  Families, children, dancers- all the subjects I love are featured.  photography as art in the home is a captivating subject.  As a matter of fact, I am so taken with this work that I have already started working on the 2012 edition.  Here is the first new room – a beautiful and practical playroom for their girls.  Looking at the portrait, you can imagine how many happy moments these children have shared in this room and elsewhere!

PS  If  you would like a copy of the magazine, I’ll send you one if you promise to drop it off in your favorite reception room after you enjoy it!

This beautiful woman seems special to me –  portraiture from this period is usually so cold.  In fact, mostly people look pretty miserable.  But not here – look at the character shining through this portrait.  It was my privilege to restore it.

I was looking back at favorite outdoor shots from last  year and came across this image of three children interacting.  Mom and Dad chose a more formal portrait for the family room wall portrait, but I just love the warmth and personality of this candid.  Each child’s personality is so vividly shown, and they are genuinely happy. Achieving a  balance between perfection and elegance in formal portrait and the challenge to capture feeling and still look artful in candid portraiture are never-ending goals in portraiture.   Here’s one of the top candids from 2010.  Hope it inspires you to let me create one for your family!

One of my favorite photo skills is restoring images people treasure.  Even severely damaged images can usually be repaired-  maybe not to Patricia’s standards when she starts from scratch! – but to a level that will bring renewed pleasure for years to the owners.  These parents really wanted to hold on to this image of their family before the children went off in the world.  It’s shocking how this print deteriorated.  But now the family has restored to them the centerpiece of the living area.  Photo restorationpatriciagagnephoto.com

It has been such a joy to photograph my grandchildren through the years.  Katherine just turned 12 and Jack is 7.  Winter birthdays mean we usually do studio shots, but capturing the spirit of each of them can happen anywhere.  When we did pictures more often, we got Jack in his overalls on the dock and tossing fall leaves in the air.  I remember Katherine posing by a tree in her beautiufl red dress with matching coat and standing with an air of wonder by the water.  Thanks to my daughter Chris and son-in -law Brian for giving me so much!

Everyone wants to put his best foot forward, especially when it comes to finding that romantic interest.  I love doing sittings for Match and other online sites.  It takes about an hour and a half and, voila, you have a CD for use online or anywhere!

After the holiday rush, time out is in order.  Photographing families, children, pets, and romance seekers on Match.com can be exhausting as well as exciting.  Last November was the best month EVER for Patricia Gagne Photographic Art, and we are grateful – as well as tired!  Here is my favorite shot of our vacation at Marco Island.  Walt went all out to show me a good time!blog01-19-11

We are all photographers — each with special gifts.  When I was visiting my son and grandson in Florida last week, I snapped this shot on my i phone while we were out to dinner.  I know this has happened to you-  right place, right moment, right feel.  In this case, even right natural lighting.  I knew right away I had a great shot, but when we returned home and I put it in the computer, I was amazed at the quality of what I had from that little phone. I spent some time in Photoshop – taking out the cluttered background, fixing Dylan’s hair that spread onto Dad’s shoulders, taking out the distracting stripes in Dylan’s shirt, replacing some of Mike’s missing hair.  And voila – this is a portrait that makes a gorgeous 8×10 and could probably be blown up even bigger.  I was thinking about how many people there are who have beautiful candids like this just waiting to be made into a portrait worthy of being a wall portrait.  So I make this special offer: send my your treasured candid via e-mail and I will return to you an image worthy of display in your home. You can print all the copies you want.  And all for a $95 art fee. Wouldn’t this make a great holiday gift?Mike-DylanFpatriciagagnephoto.com
