IT WAS A TOUGH TEN DAYS WHEN WE THOUGHT WE MIGHT LOSE OUR MUCH-LOVED MACY GRAY.  WE LEARNED TODAY THAT THE INFECTION HAD BEEN CAUSED BY AN IN-GROWN TOENAIL AND ONLY THE SURGERY PROVIDED BY SOUTH FORSYTH ANIMAL HOSPITAL COULD HAVE SAVED HER.  THANK YOU SO MUCH DR O’NEAL!  MACY GRAY IS ALMOST BACK TO NORMAL!MACY GRAYPATRICIAGAGNEPHOTO.COM

The project to find a model for my beautiful garden dress is taking shape beautifully.  There will be six contestants – lovely three year olds with beautiful smiles! Here is the first entry– to give you an idea of what is ahead.  I will call for a vote when all six paintings are complete.  Outdoor photography with children can have thrilling results.

  • My relationship with this family began with the maternity portrait.  Vivien was so alive, so full of the joy of having her first child!  Here she is in February:

Rhett, the new Dad, was with us all the way through the shoot.  And he posed with Vivien for the Mom and Dad Awaiting Baby portrait.blog07-09twowww.patriciagagnephoto.com

And four months later, we have Blake at the center of this happy family.  For his first sitting we did the baby, above all, of course.  But also we squeezed in Mom and Baby, Dad and Baby, and First Family Portrait!  You can feel the love in this family, and that is why I have titled the collage I created from this session “First Love”.blog07-08ten

And finally I can’t NOT show some images of Blake from this baby, family portrait session.

When a client called and asked me to take an old photo from the 1960’s and make it into a painted portrait, I jumped at the challenge.  As you can see, the background of the original as well as the quality of the print presented serious issues.  The client told me how this was her favorite picture of her husband  - how much it meant to her.  I was impressed with the feeling behind the request and set to work determined to create a portrait worthy of having a place as a wall portrait. One of the great things about being a family photographer is that there is a new challenge every day.  It NEVER gets boring!

Here is another type of restoration.  A beautiful painting damaged by time and who knows what else. An artist friend of mine asked me to work on this and we agreed it looks like new!

Here are the results of my desire to create a painting that would capture the beauty and loving relationships between my daughter and her children.  As a birthday present I gathered the special clothing-   it certainly made me realize what my clients have to go through to create just the right look.  Jack, who is 6, certainly came through- leaning right into the picture.  Kelsey, nine this week, is a little actress with endless aplomb.  And Katherine, 11 1/2, is a young lady now.  It all came together- under that beautiful smile of my daughter, and those fills with intelligence and love.  I am so proud of my family– and of husband and Dad Brian who made it all happen!

Photography is wonderful for so many things-  just simple images to recall a wonderful experience.  Three days with the monks is amazing.  We pray five times a day, share three meals, and feel the peace.  Now I’m ready to return to portraiture, but isn’t it amazing the pictures an I-phone can take?!

First is the flower garden.  On the right is the area for pre-schoolers.  On the left, if  you look carefully, you can see the sitting area for children u p to eighteen months.  These gardens will bloom and grow until September, but don’t wait that long to have Patricia make a beautiful portrait of your child or children here.  You can see samples of portraits from previous years’ gardens on my main website.  Go to Family Portraiture and then Outdoor Settings.

The Tour of Homes continues at this beautiful home in Cumming. The Yards have been clients of mine since Alyssa was a baby. (You will see her baby picture as part of the album at the end of this post.) One of the greatest joys of the photography business is watching children grow and capturing that child’s spirit at each age. And capturing family relationships is part of this process.  I have come to know these girls so well and have watched as they developed interests and activities as the years have gone by. Cathy has devoted so much love and energy into chronicaling all these changes. It’s been an adventure!

Let’s begin with a look at the girls today followed by the exterior of their home…

Yardblog1 One of the greatest rooms in the house for formal portraiture is the dining room. Here we find 11 x 14 painted portraits of each girl.  In front of the window is a selection of desk portraiture.  Matching portraits is always a challenge.  We want the images to be similar but not the same.  You can judge the result.  Cathy and I loved it!

touryardding Here are the portraits of Alexis and Alyssa taken at age seven.

touryarddinalal Even the kitchen has beautifully displayed portraiture!

touryardkitchen On the other side of the counter we find a comfortable area for casual dining and relaxation.  Once again a great sport for portraiture.  Here we find the girls at six years old.  Cathy chose to use the gallery canvas placed on an easel.  This type of finishing is great for bookcases and small spaces.

touryarddenCathy smiled a little hesitantly as she showed the way to the master closet.  ”It’s great!” she explained, ” I go by here all the time and can really  enjoy this beautiful image!”

tour-yardcloset Finding just the right spot for portraiture is quite an accomplishment.  When Cathy brought me her little girls in their gorgeous outfits, I had no idea how perfect it would be for this room.  You could imagine that the room was designed around the girls….  Hmmm…  could be!

TourYardguestFinally, let’s have a look at the library.  Peaceful, to say the least.  The bookcases hold all kinds of desk sized portraiture and, above all, the albums that chronicle the girls through the years.  Below you will find just a few images selected from each girls album.  So much love and effort has gone into creating images the family will treasure forever.

Here is Gustavo Seda and here is why it is so much fun to do dance photography!  Gustavo came with two fellow dancers who kibitzed, encouraged and inspired! We worked together to capture the technical expertise and style of this young dancer.  And good news came soon after-  Gustavo passed the audition and is on his way to a bright career in dance.  I love being part of it.
