The Gift of Giving – a Story

The story I am about to tell is real, yet also merely in my mind.  It is a photographer’s story. Weeks ago I offered in my newsletter to make a painted portrait of a special needs child as a holiday gift.  And so Jasmine came to me. The details of  her condition I didn’t ask.  She came in the arms of her step-father to be. Jasmine was silent all through the two hours I knew her, lying quietly in her beautiful blue velvet dress, her lovely chestnut curls around her face.  Jasmine can’t sit up or even hold her head up for long, but she was comfortable leaning her head against the arm of a man who clearly took joy in supporting her.  Mom is beautiful, slim and elegant.  She wanted me to see and capture the beauty of her only child, and her sweetness.  Along with the family came Jasmine’s pet parrot who posed and preened wherever I placed him.  Every once in a while he would emit a sharp sound which I would think was an expensive piece of lighting equipment crashing to the ground.  But then silence and a very innocent look from this gorgeous bird.  Dad asked for a shot of him and the bird for the photo wall at a restaurant he frequents- a splash of fun within this effort to capture the beauty of this family.  They will have the hree wall portraits seen here to grace their home and say they will remember me and keep me in their prayers.  Me too.Maniegofb1Maniegofb2Maniegofb3Maniegofb4
