I’ve just completed two family painted portraits, each quite different in look and feel.  I plan to choose one for a large display in my studio reception area, but am having trouble selecting the right one.  So please give me your opinion/advice in the comment section.  The portrait below is of a family with Mom, Dad, and two teenage children. The expressions on  all four are great and their placement is graceful.  Needless to say, they are a super-handsome family, which is very important in making this choice.  After all my clients all plan to look just as great in their own portrait.  The selection of clothing here is very suitable to a large painting.  It is simple, but not boring. But the most artful aspect of the painted portrait is the setting.  Incomparable Fall beauty.  Since this family has only tall, handsome people in it, they are strong enough in the image not to be outshone by the extraordinary background. The  image above has quite a different look.  The background here is softer which works very well with so many subjects in the portrait.  This family has Mom and Dad, his three children and her three children.  They blend in the image as in real life.  It was a pleasure to photograph a truly functional joined family!  The clothing in this portrait is terrific.  I love the way the colors and styles blend – nothing is more boring than to have everyone dressed the same.  The clothing also captures the spirit of each subject and that is my foremost goal in creating a family portrait. This photographer will be looking at the display every day for some time, so do give me  your considered opinion!
